Encinitas, meaning "Small Oaks" in Spanish, is a coastal city in North County, San Diego, California. Situated in Southern California, it lies approximately 25 miles north of San Diego, between Solana Beach and Carlsbad, and about 95 miles south of Los Angeles. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 62,007, up from 59,518 in 2010. Encinitas is located on a rugged coastal terrace, split by a coastal ridge that divides New and Old Encinitas. The northern part of the city features coastal bluffs, which can collapse onto the narrow beaches below. The city is bordered by Batiquitos Lagoon to the north and San Elijo Lagoon to the south.
