South Park is a neighborhood in San Diego, California, located next to the southeast corner of Balboa Park. Known for its tree-lined streets and walkable business district, it stands out as one of the city’s more picturesque areas.
Primarily a residential neighborhood, South Park features a mix of single-family homes, small apartment buildings, and bungalow courts. The area is especially notable for its collection of Craftsman and Spanish Colonial Revival homes built between 1905 and 1930, including works by prominent architects like Irving Gill, William S. Hebbard, and Richard Requa. In 2017, San Diego designated the original South Park Addition subdivision as the South Park Historic District, recognizing it as a prime example of an early 20th-century streetcar suburb.
The neighborhood offers a variety of amenities, including restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, taverns, wine bars, art galleries, and the Albert Einstein Academy Charter School. It is also home to Pathfinders, one of the oldest residential treatment centers for alcoholism in California.

South Park is part of the Golden Hill Community Planning Area and falls within the Central Division of the San Diego Police Department. It is bordered by Balboa Park on the west, Juniper Street to the north, A Street to the south, and Juniper Canyon and SR 15 to the east, spanning zip codes 92102 and 92104.
History
South Park was first registered as a subdivision in 1870 but remained undeveloped until 1905, when it was purchased by E. Bartlett Webster. The Bartlett Estate Company added infrastructure such as sidewalks, water, and electricity, marketing the area as a "high-class residential district." The completion of the South Park and East Side Railway in 1906, an electric streetcar line linking South Park to downtown San Diego, spurred further growth, making it the city's first streetcar suburb. By the 1910s, streetcars were a key feature of South Park and neighboring areas, continuing to serve the community until their retirement in 1949.
